Type of Position: Temporary, Full-Time – 1-year term.
Location: The field activities of the position, plus in-person training, will be carried out entirely in the area around Quinhagak.
Experience: No prior experience is necessary, and all training will be provided.

Position Overview:
We are hiring for 2 GIS Support Technician roles, as part of a federal grant awarded to Nalaquq, LLC and the University of Arkansas (UA) to study river change and salmon health. Successful applicants will be trained in a range of transferable skills in the spatial sciences. The Nalaquq team will supervise applicants’ progress and activities, and the individual will work closely (both in-person and remotely) with UA staff involved in the project.
Responsibilities: The main responsibilities for the job are to carry out research activities in support of the project, specifically:
- Using drones to create accurate aerial maps (also known as “orthomosaics”) and 3D models of the landscape
- Using satellite remote sensing to understand how the landscape has changed over the decades
- Learning basic to intermediate geographical information system (GIS) skills to create maps and graphics to communicate research results.
- Contribute local traditional knowledge to help co-design a research approach alongside project staff
