Co-Produced Research & Design
Today academic research teams are increasingly working on Indigenous lands with the stated aim of producing community-oriented products, solutions, or outcomes. Nalaquq was formed to empower local communities take an active role in this research and ensure that Indigenous concerns, data sovereignty, and needs are reflected in research questions, project activities, and budgets. To accomplish this, we draw from over 20 years of experience working on community-based projects in rural Alaska with international academic research teams, federal agencies, and non-profits. Past Projects
Finding Lost Vessels for SAR
Monitor Berry Patches
Automated Salmon Counts
Detect Ancestral Archeological Sites
Search & Rescue
Nalaquq is partnering with local SAR operators in Alaska to develop UAV resources to assist in mission planning and rescue. Our most recent project uses drone imagery to automatically classify lost small marine vessels.
Salmon Counts
Nalaquq has also worked with local communities and fisheries to develop UAV workflows for salmon counting. Using UAVs for salmon counting is cheaper, safer, and more accurate than conventional alternatives.
